Is a breast lift right for me?

Breast lift surgery isn’t the right fit for every breast complaint. A breast lift will not increase the size of your breasts. However, if you would like larger breasts as well, you can opt for a combination breast lift/breast augmentation.

If your breasts are heavy and cause back and neck pain, a breast reduction might be the best procedure for you. This surgery includes a breast lift while also reducing the size of large breasts. A breast lift alone is ideal for patients who are happy with their breast size, but unhappy with the shape, often due to droopiness and sagging.

A breast lift and you – your breast lift consultation

Dr Beale will examine you during your consultation and ask you a number of questions about what you dislike about the size and shape of your breasts. He will then discuss the different options with you in detail so you know what to expect from your surgery. He has many years of experience providing successful breast surgeries for his patients.

Whether you need a lift, a reduction, or a breast augmentation, he’ll provide you with medically sound advice and carefully honed surgical skill. He approaches every patient as an individual and creates a surgical plan that is customized to your needs, goals, and anatomy.

Should I postpone a breast lift?

If you plan to become pregnant, we recommend that you postpone your breast lift, as pregnancy and breastfeeding may cause sagging of the breasts again. It is important to wait until you’re no longer planning future pregnancies. In fact, once you are done, the ideal procedure is a comprehensive mommy makeover rejuvenation. This total body transformation combines procedures like a tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction to restore a woman’s body after pregnancy.

Recovery after a breast lift

Recovering at home provides a more comfortable and pleasant recovery experience for many of our patients. We recommend plenty of rest, especially during the first few days. This helps your body heal quickly. Most sutures used in a breast lift are placed below the skin, so they dissolve on their own and do not need to be removed. Our office will provide you with a surgical bra for comfort and support during your recovery period.

You should limit activity for 48 hours to reduce any discomfort, and we will give you medications to help you stay comfortable. Occasionally, drains are placed below the skin to capture fluids. These are removed the morning after your surgery. Detailed recovery instructions are provided, and our friendly staff are available to answer questions and address concerns. We will check your healing several times during the recovery process.

You may shower the next morning, and you can resume normal activities within a few days. Returning to work usually occurs within 1-2 weeks of your procedure—longer if you work in a physically demanding position.

You should avoid strenuous activities, especially certain chest exercises, for several weeks following surgery.

Some bruising and swelling are to be expected, but these will subside gradually in the weeks following your breast lift. We will ask you to be careful during sleep and will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions. You will see Dr Beale for follow-up examinations to make sure you are healing well and that you are happy with your results.

Pregnancy after a breast lift

We always tell women that they should wait for a mastopexy if they are planning future pregnancies. The reason is simple—pregnancy changes the breasts. They often expand during this time, stretching out skin and tissues. Pregnancy after a breast lift can lead to sagging breasts again. This can be corrected with an additional surgery, but it is best to wait. Pregnancy is safe after breast lift surgery, but some women may struggle with breastfeeding.

Breast lift surgery after pregnancy - an important addition to the mommy makeover

While we don’t recommend breast lift surgery before pregnancy, we may strongly recommend it after. The breast lift is a common addition to our mommy makeover, a set of cosmetic procedures performed after pregnancy to reverse common post-pregnancy body complaints. Our mommy makeover helps women to feel confident in their body after pregnancy, breastfeeding, and childbirth. This procedure is typically performed after a woman’s final pregnancy. In addition to a breast lift, a mommy makeover may also include a tummy tuck, liposuction, and other cosmetic procedures.

Breast lift surgery after pregnancy can lift sagging and drooping breasts, restoring upper pole fullness and perky, rounded breasts. We often pair a breast lift with implants, adding volume and enhancing shape. Both a lift and implants can be performed simultaneously. This reduces downtime and provides a better final result. If you’re considering breast lift surgery after pregnancy, wait until you’ve given birth to your last child. You’ll also need to finish breastfeeding and wait several months for any milk to dry up before scheduling your mommy makeover breast surgery.
