Am I a candidate for breast revision surgery?

This surgery is usually done when a patient is unhappy with the outcome of her original breast augmentation. It may also be necessary when the patient has experienced a complication, such as:

  • Capsular contracture (resulting in hard breasts)
  • Implant rupture/leakage
  • A shift in the placement of the implants due to complication or injury, wrinkling of an implant, a “uniboob” condition, or infection.

Dr Beale is well-versed in correcting each of these issues and has provided numerous patients with a successful breast revision in Dallas, including implant exchange and mastopexy (breast lift) when necessary. If you are experiencing a complication, Dr Beale must first examine you and determine the cause. From there, he can recommend the best course of action for correcting the issue and safely restoring your breasts to a normal, pleasing appearance.

The secondary cosmetic breast surgery procedure

This surgery is performed using general anesthesia and is usually done as an outpatient procedure, which means that most patients can go home within a few hours, provided a friend or family member is available to take them home.

In most cases, breast implant removal or implant exchange will be necessary. This gives you the opportunity to alter the type of implant and sometimes the size as well. Size changes are not always medically advisable, but Dr Beale will discuss this with you during your consultation in his Dallas office. Visit our breast augmentation page for information about types of implants.

The incisions that were made for your first breast augmentation can often be used again so there are no new scars, but this is not always possible, depending upon the complication you have experienced. Dr Beale will advise you of his surgical plan prior to your procedure.

Recovery from a secondary cosmetic breast surgery procedure

Recovery from a breast implant removal or breast revision in Dallas is usually similar to what you experienced after your breast augmentation. If you had an infection after your first surgery, antibiotics will be necessary.

Expect some swelling, bruising, tightness, and pain. You will wear a surgical bra for a few weeks, and you will be provided with pain medication to keep you comfortable during recovery. We will give you thorough written instructions, but you should be able to go back to work within a week or two. Sports and exercise can be resumed in three to four weeks.

You will see Dr Beale for follow-up examinations to make sure you are healing well and that you are happy with your results.

Why choose Dr Beale for breast revision surgery?

During every Dallas breast revision, Dr Beale’s goal is to deliver natural, pleasing results. Certainly, that is what you hoped for the first time!
