Dr Beale has extensive experience with facial plastic surgery, including both upper and lower blepharoplasty in Dallas. He can restore a refreshed and well-rested appearance without causing the eyelid skin to look unnaturally tight or constantly surprised. This is a popular surgery with both men and women.
What issues can be corrected with eyelid surgery?
Beyond rejuvenated soft tissue at the upper and lower eyelids, some wrinkles around the eyes such as crow’s feet can often be reduced during surgery. Some patients have an overhanging upper eyelid only and, therefore, only require upper blepharoplasty, while others only need puffiness corrected at the lower lids. If your lower eyelids are sagging, possibly exposing the underside of the lid, this condition can also be corrected through eyelid surgery in Dallas.
If you need treatment for both the upper and lower eyelids, your procedures can be performed simultaneously. Blepharoplasty does not address drooping eyebrows or forehead wrinkles, however. For those issues, a brow lift is recommended. Some patients opt to have a brow lift and eyelid lift at the same time.
Still, other patients decide to have a facelift and neck lift at the same time as an eye lift to address signs of aging on both the upper and lower portions of the face. In the latter case, an overnight hospital stay is required.
The causes of eyelid sagging
Eyelid sagging is a common complaint as patients age. The skin around the eyes is very delicate and shows aging early on. Additional factors including genetics, sun exposure, and skin elasticity, all of which contribute to the development of eyelid sagging. Non-surgical procedures such as Botox® may relax wrinkles around the eyes for a time, but for moderate to advanced eyelid sagging or puffiness, eyelid surgery is one of the most effective options available.
You may benefit from blepharoplasty in Dallas if:
- You have saggy upper or lower eyelids
- You have bags or puffiness under the eyes
- You have lines and wrinkles around the eyes
Many patients with sagging upper eyelids have some vision obstruction. For these patients, treatment can open their field of vision, restoring and improving vision in addition to providing significant cosmetic benefits.

Your blepharoplasty consultation in Dallas, TX
We love meeting with prospective patients to discuss the procedure, answer questions, and offer treatment recommendations. You can schedule a consultation at our Dallas, TX office by calling (214) 739-5600. You don’t have to be sure that you want eyelid surgery to schedule a consultation. Our blepharoplasty consultations can help you make an informed decision about surgery and are designed to accommodate any interested or curious patient—not only those who are ready to book their procedure.
Dr Beale will examine you during your consultation and ask some questions about what you dislike about the appearance of your eyelids. He will then discuss available options in detail, so you know what to expect. He approaches every patient as an individual and creates a surgical plan that is customized to your needs, goals, and anatomy. A consultation can help you determine if eyelid surgery in Dallas is right for you or if you’re a better fit for one of our other facial plastic surgery procedures.
The eyelid lift procedure
Both upper and lower lifts can usually be completed using a local anesthetic and sedation. In some cases, however, general anesthesia may be preferable, especially for a lower eyelid lift or times when blepharoplasty is being combined with other facial procedures. In most cases, eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure. This may vary if your procedure is combined with a facelift or other extensive surgical procedures.
During treatment focused on the upper eyelid, the incision is made within the eyelid crease so the scars will not be seen. The excess skin and fat are then removed so the eyelids are firmer and more youthful.
For a lower eyelid lift, the incision is either made under the lower lashes or on the underside of the eyelid (transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty). The scars will not be visible or obvious once they are fully matured. Excess fat is removed to reduce the appearance of puffiness, and skin is re-draped for a smoother eyelid appearance.
Recovery from an eyelid lift in Dallas
Because blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, most patients return home the same day as their surgical appointment. Our office will provide the expected times for your surgery and recovery in advance, so you can arrange for transportation home. We find that many patients enjoy recovering from eyelid surgery in the comfort of their own home when possible.
Sutures used are often absorbable, but some stitches may need to be removed in five to six days. You will wear a cooled eye mask to help with swelling, and we will give you eye drops to keep your eyes hydrated. We will also provide you with detailed post-operative instructions. Following blepharoplasty, patients often find the recovery quite manageable, with the post-operative side effects remaining fairly minimal. Redness, swelling, and tenderness are common, especially during the first few days following eyelid surgery.
Most patients can resume normal activity within a few days, with a return to strenuous activity within two to three weeks. Most swelling and bruising resolve during the first week, but a small amount of swelling in the lower eyelid may remain for a longer period. Eye makeup can usually be worn within seven to ten days post-procedure.
You will see Dr Beale for follow-up examinations to make sure you are healing well and that you are happy with your results. While the aging process cannot be stopped, the results of your Dallas eyelid lift should last for many years.
