Breast Reduction
Many patients choose to undergo a breast reduction for both cosmetic and medical purposes. It can alleviate chronic neck, shoulder or back pain and can correct poor posture due to heavy breasts. With this surgical procedure many patients achieve a more balanced body proportion and better fitting clothes with a decrease in breast volume. Dr. Beale and his team have expertise in performing thousands of breast surgeries, and his breast reduction patients experience benefits both aesthetically and physically. This is why it is one of the highest satisfaction procedures in plastic surgery.

Because Every Detail Matters
Good candidates for breast surgery often experience chronic back, shoulder and/or neck pain. They might have skin irritation under the breasts and shoulder grooving from bra straps. Exercising can be challenging. Patients also may be self-conscious about the size and shape of their breasts and may feel like they are out of proportion with the rest of their body.
On its surface, breast reduction may appear to be a cosmetic procedure, but it may actually be considered medically necessary by insurance companies. This is due to the physical discomfort and issues caused by large, pendulous breasts, such as back issues, shoulder pain, and chafing in the breast fold. As always, our goal is to help our patients get the treatment necessary to provide true relief.
During a mastopexy, breast tissue is elevated to a higher position on the chest and tightens loose skin. This procedure repositions the areola and improves breast shape and firmness. It addresses breast sagging, but does not significantly reduce breast size. The primary goal of a breast reduction is to reduce the size and weight of large breasts. It addresses back, neck and shoulder pain and improves the ability to exercise and wear well-fitted clothing. It addresses proportion and aesthetics as well as relieves pain associated with heavy breast tissue.
It may still be possible, but breastfeeding ability can be reduced depending on the surgical technique and amount of tissue removed. At your consultation, Dr. Beale will explain the risks and benefits associated with undergoing a breast reduction.
